Utility Meters used for the metering of power, clean water, gas, taxi meter, Parking Meters, Telephone Meters, can be the main cause a Utility company such as PPL, huge sums of money in lost revenue. This is if the very meters installed are not calibrated for their metering accuracy and tested for functionality purposes as per their calibration cycles.

This is what the Director General of National Institute of Standards and Industrial Technology, Mr. Victor Gabi had to say following the announcement on this daily of the resignation of yet another Managing Director of PNG Power.

                



 

WORLD ACCREDITATION DAY 2021
Accreditation – Supporting the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)


Every year, on the 9th of June, we celebrate World Accreditation Day. It is a global initiative established by International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF), supported by Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) for all accreditation bodies. PNG is an Associate Member of ILAC/IAF/APAC through the National Institute of Standards and Industrial Technology (NISIT) under its Accreditation Division. An Accreditation Body provides various  accreditation schemes for testing laboratories, calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies, proficiency testing, validation and verification bodies according to respective harmonised, international standards and guidelines approved by ILAC, IAF and APAC. The Accreditation Division of NISIT, operating as PNG Accreditation Services (PNGAS) is established by a statute referredto in NISIT Act. It currently runs PNG Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (PNGLAS) for testing laboratories while other accreditation schemes are yet to be developed. This is year World Accreditation theme is: “Accreditation – Supporting the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. Accreditation by ILAC definition is: ” An Independent evaluation of conformity assessment bodies against recognised standards to ensure their impartiality and competence to carry out specific activities, such as tests, calibrations, inspections, provision of proficiency testing programs and certifications.”
