Papua New Guinea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme

The Papua New Guinea Laboratory Accreditation Services (PNGLAS) is the National Scheme responsible for facilitating and providing Laboratory Accreditation in PNG. PNGLAS was established in 1983 and is operating through an MOU between NISIT and the National Association of Testing Authority (NASA) of Australia.

PNGLAS Functions and Responsibilities

Under the scheme, Testing Authorities are required to comply with International Standard ISO/IEC 17025 – General Requirements for the Competence of Calibration and Testing Laboratories. For Accreditation to be granted, the accredited laboratory will have demonstrated its technical competence to carry out specific calibration or test against the requirements stated in PNG/ISO/IEC 17025:2005 – “General Requirements for the Competence of Calibration and Testing Laboratories”.

PNGLAS Acheivements and Milestones

PNGLAS has achieved several milestones since its inception and commencement of its operations back in 1982.  Over dfits 24 years of operations, PNGLAS has accredited over 30 Testing laboratories and Testing Facilities in and around PNG. To date, there are 14 accredited Testing laboratories in the fields of Chemical and Construction Testing in Papua New Guinea.
