The Information and Sales Service Centre is one of the key resource facility within the Institute that is responsible for the discharging of several key services as part of aiding greater public awareness, education and wider dissemination of standards information, standards publications and other standards (related) products. As a resource centre, the facility provides a wide range of services for internal purposes within the Institute and for external purposes. Amongst the list of the services provided by the Information Centre are the following:
• Standards Information Services,
• Sales of Standards Services and
• Subscription Services.
Standards Information Services
The Standards Information Services is coordinated and managed by our call-centre and an enquiry desk. We have a call centre facility through which interested persons can call, email or fax enquiries regarding standards information. All enquiries are attended to promptly pending the nature, scope of the enquiry together with the availability of information to be supplied accordingly. All information are supplied either through facsimile, or email or through phone calls. All our information is sourced from our wide and extended source of reference standards material kept in the facility. Basically, within NISIT we have a collection of standards documents published by the NISIT, other foreign National Standards Setting Bodies and International Standards Setting Bodies. The Centre provides facilities for shelving and displaying all reference copies of the international (ISO) standards, other National Standards and the Papua New Guinea Standards (PNGS) for public viewing, information and research.
The Centre is responsible for providing general guidance and advice on the standards, their availability, currency, scope of application and implications (benefits). Other additional or detail technical advice are provided by the technical staff of the Institute. The advice and information covers standards that are kept and maintained within our facility. The standards include the following:

The Centre maintains approximately 30,000 in total National, other foreign National Standards and International Standards from the list of identified national and international standards setting bodies. The Centre ensures that Standards from the above organizations are maintained and updated regularly to ensure that most up-to-date information on products, processes and services standards are made available for dissemination from the Information Desk. The Centre to date has in its collection or has access to approximately 1,200 PNG Standards, approximately 4,000 New Zealand Standards, approximately 5,600 Australian Standards, approximately 12,300 ISO Standards, approximately 1,200 International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standards, approximately 155 OIML Standards and 13 Volumes of Codex Standards by Codex Alimentarius Commission.
The services available are:
- assisting in identifying relevant standards for client purposes
- assisting in providing up-to-date information on a specific standard upon request
- acquiring information and standard documents from other sources for information dissemination purposes
We have standards catalogue on display at the facility for guidance and direction in aiding search for standards. The Centre maintains various Standards Catalogue for ease of reference as all published standards are contained in the standards catalogue.
